What the Top Ranking List IS NOT?
There are so many Amazon LISTS that vie for customer attention. The “Top Ranking” list that featured Ellen’s book is a readers choice list and is separate from:
- The “Top 100 Best Sellers” featuring most sold of all Amazon books in every single genre.
- It’s separate from the “Top 100 Category Best Sellers.”
- It’s separate from ranking in the top 20 (page one) in your “Tag Community.”

Many authors aren’t familiar with the Top Ranking engine at Amazon. We know that this list called “TOP RATED” has nothing to do with sales.

My 2 cents: I think most authors make their social media mistake by putting up sites and profiles and fan pages, etc. that just talk about them and their books. Yes, when you get followers they want to know all that too, but it’s important to share all kinds of news and articles and just anything that might contribute to the general topic surrounding you book’s genre.
Also, you’re right that a majority of followers might be other writers (we read more than the general public) so if you’ve learned something as an author, share it along with the link to an article you wrote about that. Most of my sales are from other authors.

Loved Ellen’s interview with Bookbuzzr! Would really, really love to know how she gets friends on FB and whether or not she finds fan pages necessary. I have a regular page in my author name and a fanpage and am not really seeing the point. Almost all of my friends on FB are other authors, (or friends and family) How do I build my FB friends?
On another note, I joined the PAC group on Goodreads (I’ve been a member there for awhile but have no idea how to use it, but I’m learning-thanks to your group!) In one evening I transformed my amazon author page and learned a ton of great things on how to make amazon work for me: great stuff! Thanks for all you do!
